To be or Not to be (Committed that is)

OK so I know that today is a different world than many of our parents and grandparents lived in.  Although I come from a divorced family, much of my generation and definitely the generation before me came from a house where once you were committed, you were committed.  Divorce was very seldom ever heard of.  Today though???  Very different picture.

Mr. X (his parents did not know what to name him so this is what they stick with) has 2 children (eldest being 7) and has been very happily married for about 9 years.  KABOOM!!!  That is the sound of the bomb being dropped on him as his wife tells him that she has been unhappy for 3 years (unbeknownst to him - she never said anything) and she wanted to seperate.  Well I have known Mr. X (seriously this is his real name) for about 25 years and he is the most selfless person I have ever met.  It did not matter what was asked of him or by whom, he always did it without question or complaint.  So what is the problem?  In my opinion the problem is that we no longer have to commit when we walk down that aisle and sign that piece of paper.  What would have been wrong with TALKING to her husband to explain how she was feeling and to give him the opportunity to correct it?  Like I said, he would have done anything to change it because he would never want anybody in his life (especially family) unhappy.  But instead, we chose to selfishly keep it quiet and ruin a fmaily in the process.  "Thanks for making it so easy" I say with a tip of the hat to Society.

ALL DAY, EVERY DAY, UNDERWATER = HEAVEN.
