WE’RE #1!! WE’RE #1!! WE’RE #1!!

By the way, I am starting this with the good news, not the bad news!!!

Well at least we do not live in Italy. It is not that I have a problem with Italy or Italians, but they are the only place on this big orb looking planet we call Earth that is more expensive to own and use an iPhone according to the “iPhone iNdex”. I wonder if Roger’s Board Meetings now end with lots of high fives and butt slapping. This is a great little interactive website for showing people in Canada (otherwise known as Canadians – sorry it is early) just how bad Rogers is taking advantage of us. NUMBER 2!! Just remember that for now (until the next paragraph).

All of the above aside, WE’RE #1!! WE’RE #1!! Once Roger’s “special Pricing promotion” ends at the end of August they can have a parade and be proud to say WE’RE #1!! WE’RE #1!! WE’RE #1!! WE’RE #1!! (do you get the impression that Roger’s is not on my Christmas Card mailer?)

So, one thing you need to understand about this whole formula for determining who is more expensive is that it takes into account the contract term. Roger’s for example is THREE years with a purchase cost of around $200. The Danes are 6 months but with a much higher purchase cost. Some might say that what Rogers is doing is saving us money by charging us less for the phone…..it is simple math. Over the committed period, we are #2 for a month and a half at which point we take back the #1 spot. Let me have the choice of buying the phone at a more expensive price and not get raped on the commitment and monthly charges, OR let me choose to pay less for the phone but get raped on the commitment / monthly charges. Freedom is all I ask for. Don’t do as you always have…..tie the concrete block to my ankle and throw me overboard.

I think I have made it pretty obvious that I will not be joining all the tech geeks in their immediate rampage to buy an iPhone today and will not until Rogers changes something or until somebody else offers it and can support it. What about you?

ADDENDUM – July 11, 2008 AM

OK so I have been doing some further reading on the issue and have seen some very interesting websites. Are you curious to see another site which shows you the math on what we, versus other countries, would pay for an iPhone? Check out this site.

link to sign the petition C-555 which is in place for “An Act to provide clarity and fairness in the provision of telecommunication services in Canada”….follow this link for the complete wording on C-555. It may not make a difference, but does it hurt anything??? I say it does not so I am 10,069 on the list. Let’s make a difference.
